500GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD Is $240 Delivered From Amazon

The Australian dollar might be weaker than it was a year ago, but bargains can still be found on the likes of Amazon. If you’re in the market for an SSD, Samsung’s 500GB 850 EVO is currently on-sale for $US180. Even when you factor in the exchange rate and shipping, it’s a great deal compared to local offerings.

Spotted by OzBargain’s drongodave, the drive is heavily discounted from $US269.99, which works out to be a saving of 33 per cent. The cheapest shipping option adds a touch under $US6 (at least for Melbourne), bringing the total to about $240 Australian.

Specifications you ask? Here you go:

Sequential read speed 550 MB/s; Sequential write speed 520 MB/s; Random read speed 100K; Random write speed 90K Worry-free data security with AES 256-bit, TCG/Opal v.2 and Microsoft eDrive full-disk encryption Backed by a five-year limited warranty Form Factor: 2.5 inch Interface: SATA 6Gb/s (Compatible with SATA 3Gb/s & SATA 1.5Gb/s) NAND Flash: 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Thickness: 7mm

Samsung’s drives might have had a few issues in the past, but it looks like its most recent hardware is free from problems. Prices of course will continue to go down, but if the dollar continues to stay in the $0.70-$0.80, this could be a rare chance to get a massive SSD for a excellent price.

If you’re not sure if you should take the plunge, Anandtech’s review of the drive is a good place to start.
