Why Cortana Isn't Working For Australians In Windows 10 Yet

The latest preview build of Windows 10 includes a preliminary version of Cortana, the voice recognition technology that first debuted on Windows Phone. However, if you're in Australia the chance is you won't see it.

As a recent blog post from Microsoft reminds us, right now Cortana only works if you're using US English. You can change your region and language settings to test it, but as we learned with the phone version, US-centric builds don't work well with an Australian accent.

On Windows Phone, there was a three-month gap before an Australian Cortana build appeared; hopefully there will be a similar gap before we see it on the Windows 10 desktop.

I just hope they will add English Australia support for Cortana! Then I will feel relaxed having an all-Australian operating system. So far, I just have the preview of Windows 10 that is using the language English US and region US just so then I can use Cortana. :/

Cortana is only currently available on Windows 10 for the United States, United Kingdom, China, France, Italy, Germany and Spain.

so still no version for Australia ... although as far as I am concerned Australians should be able to pick UK or US (or some other non-English version if they like)

elsewhere some one has a workaround
To get Cortana working outside the US do the following:

First you will have to change 'Region and Language' settings. For this go to desktop control panel and select Clock, Language, and Region from the right hand side
Click on Region and change the following:
In the Format tab, set format as English (United States)
Set Home Location in the Location tab as United States
Finally, in the Administrative tab, set Current System Local to English (United States)
Also, set English (United States) as your primary display language to make the aforementioned changes work fine
In case you have not installed it yet, head over to Add a Language and choose it from the list and then set as primary
After you have made the changes, restart your PC. Once the system is up, you will find Cortana ready to assist you with information you are looking for
Also, you need to sign in using your Microsoft account. You can either use your keyboard or, microphone to interact with Cortana.

If you are a non-native speaker and not comfortable with pronunciation, you can change the settings accordingly. For this, go to Setting>> choose System>> Speech>> set Speech language as English (US)>> click the box saying Use speech pattern for non native speakers of this language.
