Christine Lu, writing at Apartment Therapy, shares the wedding gifts that she and her husband get the most out of:

  • Dutch oven
  • Knife block
  • Garbage can (but a really nice one)
  • Large serving platter

The Wedding Gifts We Still Use 5 Years Later (& the Ones We Don’t) [Apartment Therapy]

  • Rice cooker gets a run all the time. A good knife does as well. I thought you were supposed to avoid knife blocks as they dull the knives (and usually have lower quality knives too).

    • Quality knife blocks won’t damage quality knives. We have Wusthof and Shun sets. Both came with blocks and all the blades hold their edges.

Of course it’s down to how they’re looked after. Any decent knife needs to be honed before every use and sharpened every year or two.

    • I keep my knives blade side up in the knife block – no dulling that way. My friend has a knife block where the knives go in sideways. Also no dulling.
