You can create a pad for barbells by using a jump rope with padded handles. Use a knife to cut off the padding. Then, wrap the padding around any barbell. You’ll end up with barbell pads that protect your hands from calluses and are far cheaper than the market alternatives.

  • i’ve been attending gyms somewhat regularly for a few years and have never had an issue with callouses. learn to grip the barbell/dumbell/bar properly and this won’t be an issue

    • If you deadlift, you WILL get callouses. The better option than making pads (which will also make the bar thicker, meaning your grip will fatigue sooner). The better solution is to use a small amount of chalk or liquid chalk to stop the barbell slipping too much in your hands. Too much of either will cause excess friction and increase likelihood of callouses, so be midful of how much you use.
