Discipline is key to reaching your financial goals. But to help ensure you stay on track, it’s also important to give yourself some breathing room. You can do this by allowing yourself an occasional “happy splurge”.

To both motivate yourself and avoid impulse spending, LearnVest suggests identifying a handful of affordable indulgences in advance. Then, when you reach a milestone, you can celebrate.

To start, list three to five indulgences that are $20 or less. Keep the list handy for motivation, and when you reach your goal, pick a splurge from the list and celebrate.
