Dreeps Turns Your Boring iPhone Alarm Clock Into An RPG

Dreeps Turns Your Boring iPhone Alarm Clock Into An RPG

iOS: You have a lot of options for alarm clocks for your smartphone, but Dreeps is an app that takes a completely different approach. Instead of just waking you up, it wakes you and a character in a mini-role playing game (RPG) up.

When your alarm goes off in the morning, you’ll see your character on your phone wake up with you. Then, as the day goes on, your character will go through their adventures in the background, requiring nothing more than an occasional tap to see how your character’s doing. You don’t need to check the app throughout the day, but it’s worth poking your head into the world to see what your character’s up to at any moment. Once your character’s HP hits zero, he needs to rest, which he does while you’re sleeping.

As an alarm clock, Dreeps is pretty simple: set the time of an alarm, then fall asleep. But the appeal is really in seeing what your character does. If the app clicks with you, waking up is a little easier because you want to send you character out on more missions. It’s certainly not an alarm clock for everyone, but if you gravitate towards pixel art and games, it’s worth a look.
