Android/iOS: Alongways, the service that finds interesting and useful places to stop along your road trip route, just released new mobile apps for iOS and Android that will guide you to interesting sights, places to eat and historic landmarks while you’re already on the road — perfect if you’d like a little adventure.
One of the biggest pieces of feedback the team behind Alongways picked up from previous releases was that people wanted a mobile app they could use while they were travelling, instead of being forced to use the webapp before they left home. It’s one thing to plan out every stop before you depart, but sometimes it’s fun if you’re driving through the country to see where the closest must-see landmark is, or find a well-loved pizza place. With Alongways’ new mobile apps, you can do just that. (Like the previous release, it draws on Google data and works worldwide, though there’s an emphasis on US locations.)
Once installed, just type in what you’re looking for and put in your origin (or current location) and destination points. You’ll get a mobile-friendly list of matching places along your route, and you can tap any of them to find out more. Bookmark places you want to look at again later, or add waypoints to your trip so you can get better results, or see how a stop will impact your travel time.
The app looks great, works well, and is available now in your app store of choice.
