We already know that drinking alcohol adds calories and affects our metabolism, but the extent that alcohol contributes to weight gain is pretty (ahem) sobering.
This graphic, posted on personal trainer Lucas James’ blog, details the relationship between alcohol and gaining weight. The empty calories in alcohol add up fast when you consider alcohol has nearly as many calories per gram as pure fat. A frozen margarita is similar in calories to a cheeseburger and drinking a glass of wine is like eating a slice of cake, calories-wise.
Besides drinking in moderation, the graphic reminds us to use better mixers (such as tonic water) rather than the usual sugary drinks. That is, if you want to get drunk, not fat.
Here’s the whole infographic:

Man, now I feel like a drink!
Doesn’t most commercial tonic water contain about as much sugar as any other soft drink?
Why are some alcoholics like rakes then?
My guess is you burn more calories standing at a bar, walking between pubs, and dancing until 3am, than you do sitting on the couch at home drinking tea.
Now it makes sense, thanks.
vodka, a slice or two of cucumber and still/tap water. that is the absolute least calories and purest mixed drink you can consume and the bonus is that you partly rehydrate while drinking and have a much more forgiving hangover the next day.
Lol, imagine 2 standard drinks per day.
2 standard drinks per hour when you’re designated driver is more like it.
