Google Search Adds Email Event Suggestions, In-App Search, Coin Flip

Android: Google has released an update to its Search app that brings some excellent new features, including searching within apps, suggested events based on email and — the holy grail of search features — flipping a coin.

The in-app search allows you to search for content in specific apps directly from the voice search button. That includes supported apps such as YouTube and Tumblr. Developers will need to enable the hooks for it to work, but for now a few apps are supported.

Google will also start to suggest events based on emails you send, even if you don’t confirm plans. So, for example, if your significant other asks if you want to do dinner on Friday, it may suggest that you turn that into an event on your Calendar. Handy, although it presumably relies on Google scanning your email, a feature which can be disabled separately from Google Now.

On top of all this, Google has finally added baked-in support for a feature that I personally will use on a near daily basis: flipping a coin. Simply say “OK Google, flip a coin”, and the app will return the results. No more waffling over pointless decisions!
