GIF Blocker Prevents GIFs From Loading Until Requested

Chrome: GIFs are a flexible format for conveying short, silent videos. However, they're not very efficient and can be slow to load. A page full of them can become unbearable on slower systems. GIF blocker solves that by turning GIFs into on-demand content.

The extension will replace any GIFs in a page with the above grey box. You can click on the GIF to load it if you choose to, but otherwise it will remain hidden. This is the same tactic employed by many browsers for on-demand Flash content. If you find yourself in a situation where a high volume of GIFs are affecting browser performance.

This is totally needed for some allure media sites.....

I was just logging in to say exactly the same thing!

      Take note, editors!

Me too, would be perfect for browsing Gizmodo and Lifehacker.

Perhaps a way to block the animated gifs on this site when there is a video right below it. (Although a simple tab ui to toggle between video and gif would work even better)

I was getting excited from the title, but I'd much rather it display the first frame of a gif instead of a gray box...

Any solutions for mobile (android) web browsing, where a gif can easily smash that precious data... Happens alot on grantland.com

Love the idea of the first frame with a play button, like on my twitter feed.
