Many see wine as an elegant drink with a steep learning curve when it comes to pairing. Truth is, you can learn to pair any wine with your meal by following a few basic rules.
Sommelier Gerald Morgan Jr talked with The Art of Manliness about wines and explains their appropriate pairing dishes. Morgan suggests following a few basic guidelines when you’re just starting to pair. White wine goes best with lighter dishes like pork, salads, pasta, or anything that normally leads up to the hearty, main dish. Red wine is ideal for the main dish and heavier portions, like red meats.
The most important rule, however, is that you should experiment with your tastes to see what pairs well for you. Find out what tastes you prefer, and if you’re going to drink wine at dinner — but not necessarily with your food — just order what you know you like.
