Hi Lifehacker, I’ve only just recently realised how convenient it would be to sync my Facebook events with my Google Calendar and thus have them pop up on my Android device. I did a quick search to find out how to do this but all the guides seem to relate to an older version of Facebook.
My main issue is when these guides say go to Events -> Calendars and then click the settings/gear icon. That icon doesn’t even appear for me. Am I missing something or can this no longer be done?
Thanks
Calendar Confused
Dear CC,
Facebook’s regular interface changes mean tasks like this can be fiddly if you don’t know where to look. Here’s how to get it done as of today (September 2014).
- Assuming you’re logged into Facebook on your computer, click on Events in the left-hand column (or click this link).
- In the bottom-right corner in the third column, you’ll see this text: “You can add your events to Microsoft Outlook, Google Calendar or Apple Calendar. Once you’ve add them, they’ll stay updated.”
- Just under that, you’ll see a link that says “Upcoming Events”. Right-click on that link and select “Copy link address” in Chrome, “Copy Link Location” in Firefox or “Copy shortcut” in Internet Explorer.
- Open Google Calendar (click on this link for quick access).
- In the left-hand column, you’ll see a heading: “Other calendars”. Click on the drop-down arrow next to it and select “Add by URL”.
- Paste in the URL and click “Add calendar”.
Once you’ve done that, all upcoming events should be automatically added to your calendar. You can also use that URL with other online calendars or calendar software. Happy planning!
Cheers

This is great, doubly so if you have an iPhone and have trouble with the Facebook calendar integration. On my iPhone, the Facebook calendar tends to leave declined events in your calendar and it is frustrating to say the least. This way seems to solve that issue entirely!
This is fine if you don’t mind your calender being filled with the spammy crap that people send out all the time. If there was a quick way to add individual events from my facebook to my google calender, that would be awesome! Even better would be to supplement the above method by only allowing events I have joined to show up.
That is my understanding anyway, maybe things have changed since last I tried to do this…
Too hard to hit decline and forget about the spammy invites?
I prefer opt in rather than opt out but unfortunately facebook is not that way inclined.
Also, if memory serves, any public event a friend is invited to will show up too… Not a lot you can do about that.
The point is, I am not asking facebook to change their policy, just asking for a way to swing an individual event out to an auxiliary calender in the same manner that outlook can…. not too much to ask I reckon.
The events show up regardless of whether you’ve declined or not.
Find a better class of Facebook friends?
If you’re happy to use a different (and better in my opinion) interface, the Sunrise Calendar works really well with both Google Calendar and Facebook events.
Also, I agree that Facebook Events should be opt-in rather than opt out. Friends who spam me invites in Facebook soon seem themselves removed from my friends list.
+1 for Sunrise calendar. It is fantastic for all things calendar, not just Facebook integration. There is an iOS, Android & Chrome app for it. Some other cool things it does:
Shows Facebook friends birthdays
Integrates with Evernote reminders
Integrates with Linkedin
Integrates with iCloud (insert security comments here)
Thanks for writing up this post. I spent over an our trying to figure this out as my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 stopped syncing the FB calendar. Now it works like a charm <3
This is helpful. Thank you!
