In relationships, sometimes we’re afraid to say how we feel. Try instituting an “Honesty Hour” with your significant other so you can say what you feel without fear of reprisal.
Relationship blog Your Tango suggests scheduling a time to talk about your true feelings instead of keeping them to yourself:
This is the time you can tell each other how you truly feel about things with complete immunity. For example, if you don’t like football, but your boyfriend/husband expects you to be there every Sunday, tell him.
This exercise will eventually allow you to share the truth about everything and respect each other’s opinions — without taking anything too personally.
This isn’t an excuse to be mean or vindictive, of course. It’s more like the military phrase “permission to speak freely”. Ideally couples are honest with each other all the times, but for those couples struggling, this is a good tip. The surprising result is you may find that your partner agrees with your opinion, but was too afraid to speak up for fear of hurting your feelings.
