The 20th edition of the Commonwealth Games officially kicks off in Glasgow, Scotland on 23 July. (Thursday morning in Australia.) However, only a sliver of coverage will actually make it to regular, free-to-air TV. Here’s what you need to get 100 per cent live coverage during the two-week event.

The Commonwealth Games are widely considered to be a poor, slightly gangrenous cousin to the Summer Olympics. On the plus side, the lack of worthy adversaries means Australia gets to completely dominate the medal tally and humiliate its colonial brethren, including the poms. Hurrah!
As you’ve probably heard, Network TEN has the broadcasting rights to the XX Commonwealth Games in Australia with hosting duties undertaken by Mel McLaughlin, Ian Thorpe, Greg Rust, Nicole Livingstone, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor and a bunch of others.
In addition to its free-to-air coverage, TEN is also offering up to eight 24-hour live streams on mobile, web, Xbox One/Xbox 360, Windows 8 devices and Sony Bravia televisions. Users will also be given access to live replays, highlights packages, catch-up services, live data, statistics, a medal tally and athlete and event information.
This will all be delivered through the Tenplay app, which you can download for Android and iOS here and here, respectively. The app is free to download, although data rates obviously apply for devices streaming via 3G or 4G. A version of the app can also be accessed via the aforementioned hardware platforms.
- iOS/Android: Eight dedicated 24 hour live streams as well as full catch-up for all events, highlights packages and Ten News reports from the Games. We also have live results, event schedule and the medal tally

When you say all events, does that mean I can watch all Field Hockey matches, not just Australian ones?
Apparently, it’s all of ’em, From TEN’s website:
Great! Hopefully these games might be watchable
Cool! Might actually check it out on my X1.
As usual, nothing for any half decent media streaming boxes.
How about an xbmc addon?

No way!! Totally adding this to my XBMC when I get home.
The comments on the android app are not promising plus no Chromecast support. Looks like my viewing options will be pretty limited.

Channel 10 have failed utterly in covering the Gymnastics. IT was supposed to air last night from 9.30. Only showed 1 x 2min routine between 11pm and midnight. Had to wait hours for 2 or 3 more routines sometime before dawn – a total of 8 minutes scattered over something like 10 hours.
Tenplay claims to post “catch-up episodes of all events”. But Gymnastics is NOT listed in the catch-up section.
They lied about tv coverage, and lied about the catch-up. That’s double false advertising. Anyone know where I can actually watch the gymnastics? Time is ticking; the events are underway and finish on the weekend, and we are missing everything!!
Never fear, even they did display Gymnastics, nothing actually streams anyway.
I have a 20mbps connection and all I’m getting is an endlessly spinning “loading” logo
Where is the freakin JUDO???? It is LIVE on sky in NZ – yet we cant get it here in Australia???? Grrrrrr
Heyyyyyyyy
Tens coverage of the games is diabolical . No sport, just studio chit chat, you have to be lucky to look up just at the right time to catch a glimpse if any live competition . I have given up.
I seem to miss the first 2 hours of my selected coverage I presume this is the time difference Perth – East Coast. Can this be worked around to get full coverage.
10 s FTA TV coverage is a shocker, end less repeats of gold medal winners We have a team of athletes over there who are representing our country give them some air time instead 6 snippets per hour of a swimmer winning a gold medal There was a 30 second interview with the skeet gold medal winner Vela (sorry if I got the name wrong) 2 minutes of where are the Proclaimers , about as entertaining as snail racing on ice
