Build A Sleek Entertainment Centre With IKEA Parts And Speaker Fabric

Austin Andersen wanted a media centre with no visible wires, plenty of storage and good airflow for the electronics. So he built this using Besta shelves and cleverly used speaker fabric in place of solid doors.

As you know, heat is the sworn enemy of electronics, so a cooling system in your entertainment center can help protect your hardware and also help them run more quietly. Andersen added cooling fans (with filters on them to keep out dust) to the cabinet holding his media server. Other gadgets are hidden behind the speaker fabric doors (he cut out the inserts of Besta Vassbo doors and stapled the cloth over them).

It’s an impressive build. The total cost of the project is $US700, but naturally you could customise your own entertainment centre based on his template — IKEA shopping list helpfully included.
