The default option for Word when opening attachments from Outlook is to display them in Reading View — which to be honest is not the way you want to look at most documents when you’re reviewing them. Fortunately, you can switch this off.
I’d have thought this would appear in Word’s Display options, but that’s not the case. Here’s how to disable it.
- In Word, selection Options from the File menu. (Keyboard shortcut: Alt-F, then T).
- On the General tab (which will usually be the one selected), make sure “Open e-mail attachments and other uneditable files in reading view” isn’t ticked.
- Click “OK”.
While you’re in that Options screen, we also recommend killing the Office Start screen, which is largely a waste of on-screen real estate.
