Mac: Screencasts usually require heavy software, but Screenmailer is a lightweight tool that makes recording and sharing your screencasts easy. The app runs in the menu bar, records your screen and voice on command, and uploads your recording while you make it. When it’s done, it’s ready to share.
Screenmailer is completely free (the developers plan to offer a monthly subscription in the future with more features) and works like a charm. Recording is a one-click affair, and when you’re finished and stop your recording, you can either email the people you want to see the screencast directly from the menu bar, or get a private link to share with them so they can view the recording right away. The videos are stored on Screenmailer’s own servers, and the maximum recording time is 45 minutes per screencast.

A Windows version is on the way, and just because your videos are stored in the cloud doesn’t mean you give up rights to the content — the team at Screenmailer explains this and more in its FAQ. Granted, Screenmailer keeps things simple, and doesn’t offer the kind of editing features and things that some of our other favourites do, but for the low price of free, it’s worth a try.
