iOS: 8Tracks, one of our favourite streaming music services, just took the wraps off of a new mobile app that highlights great new music and mixes you’ll want to hear. As soon as you open the app, you’ll be able to find something good, hit play, and go from there.
It has been a while since the last 8Tracks app update (and even longer since the last Android update — hopefully that’s coming soon). Where the old version focused more on the social aspect of the service, the latest release brings music to the forefront. The new version opens you right up to featured mixes, staff picks, popular mixes, and trending artists and mixes. Tap any to scroll through them, see some basic information about each, and click play.
While you listen, a persistent player at the bottom of the app gives you playback control while you browse other mixes, head over to your account (you can sign in via email, Google or Facebook), see your feed from users you follow, or pull up your listening history or favourite tracks. Similarly, you can search for specific users or songs from the sidebar on the left. The app has a sleep timer so you can start a mix (or set of mixes) and catch a nap.
