Post Forward Replaces Banner Ads With Social Media Feeds

Chrome: If you find ads to be annoying while you browse the web, Adblock Plus is one way to go. But that only removes the ad and puts blank space instead. A new Chrome extension called Post Forward replaces ads on the web with social media feeds from Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.

It’s pretty straightforward. Install the extension, grant it access to your social networks and it will fetch feeds for you. Post Forward auto-detects banner ads on several popular websites, although not on all. And in their place, it will show you one of your social networks — although there doesn’t seem to be a way to control which social feed you can see at any given time. Still, it’s a neat way to keep on top of your social media while browsing the web.

As Next Big What notes, Post Forward can be a little aggressive and treat all pop-ups as ads, so you’ll need to pause the extension in such cases — it’s available in the drop-down dialog box when you click the icon in the toolbar. We’d like it a lot more if it had a whitelist for the sites you want to support — ahem — but overall it’s still fairly clever, so it’s worth keeping an eye on.
