Make DIY Travel-Sized Toiletries With A Drinking Straw

You never know when you might need sunscreen or a bit of moisturiser. Instead of lugging a bunch of bottles in your bag that add to the weight and space, Mighty Girl has a simple hack: DIY toiletries in a straw.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Plastic straws
  • A heat sealer
  • Cotton buds
  • Scissors
  • Scotch tape

Fill a straw with whatever you want and then push it in with the cotton bud, so that there’s a bit of straw left on both ends. Wipe off any excess. Use the heat sealer to seal off both ends of the straw and snip off the flat stems so it’s compact. On the scotch tape, write the content of the straw and stick it on. You’re done!

To use the packets, you just pinch one of the ends to open, like a honey stick or plastic Pixy Stick, or if it’s stubborn you can stab it with a safety pin. I keep them in a dark place, because sunlight can get through the straw and damage things like sunscreen and makeup.

A heat sealer is the one item you’ll need to invest in for this. Mighty Girl points to an Instructable that uses a lighter to seal straws, too.
