Dear Lifehacker I’m a huge fan of Veronica Mars and was very excited when the movie was announced as a Kickstarter project and I have been looking forward to its release, scheduled for next week in the US. However, it seems that it won’t be getting a theatrical release in Australia. I want them to make more Veronica Mars movies so I’d like to legally access it and give them my support. What are my options for doing so in Australia? Thanks, Sad Marshmallow

Dear SM,
The Veronica Mars movie will be available in Australia as a digital download from 14 March — the same day that it hits cinemas in the US. You can purchase the movie on a range of digital platforms including iTunes, Google Play and BigPond Movies as well as the PlayStation Store and Xbox Video. You can also rent/stream the movie from the aforementioned platforms in both standard definition ($5.99) and HD ($6.99).
The film will also be getting a disc release in Australia sometime in May (an exact date has yet to be announced). It will be available in both DVD and Blu-ray formats for $19.95 and $24.95, respectively.
If you’re keen to experience the movie on the big screen, a handful of “fan screenings” will be held at select Hoyts cinemas on March 14. These will be limited to a single session at the Hoyts Entertainment Quarter in Sydney, Hoyts Stafford in Brisbane and Hoyts Melbourne Central. All three sessions will begin at 7:30pm.
In addition to paying for the movie, you can also show your support by buying a bunch of Veronica Mars pap from the Warner Bros store — click here to check out the full range. Also be sure to keep your eye on Kickstarter for any follow-up projects that you can contribute to. After the success of the first campaign, we wouldn’t be surprised if the filmmakers do it all over again for the sequel!
Cheers

Great answers – thanks guys! Will be sure to rent this one, probably off Google Play, then buy it on DVD in May 🙂
lol… the correct answer is that this movie is emotionally hollow, even compared to the show – and should be aborted.
I would literally rather kill myself than watch a movie about Veronica Mars getting a new boyfriend.
Hopefully you’ll catch a quick glance from the corner of your eye while passing a screen and will then be forced to follow through.
M8 I am a man, with real emotions. Plz don’t hurt my fragile emotions for not liking this movie.
just for clarification, can you explain what your views are on what sort of real emotions a man is supposed to have?
Not sure what you’re getting at – but I personally am a sensitive flower.
i just meant – what emotions are men in general supposed to experience, but now i realise you were talking about that you are emotional.
Do you ever have anything positive to say? I see you posting a lot and all you do is bitch and moan and “correct” things that the journalists/commenters have said.
I like Veronica Mars, I especially like watching it with my sister. Frankly I don’t care what you’d rather kill yourself than do.
lol sure, I have lots of positive posts, people (including myself) just always pay the most attention to the negatives because they are the “loudest” heh!
Nothing personal – I didn’t think the show was entirely terrible, but have you read the plot of the movie? It’s basically just like “People want more so we should make more” and the end result was something like a modernized dawsons creek. One of the plot points is literally “X character continues to feel bad about someone dying”.
Clearly you have no idea. “People want more so we should make more” isn’t even close to reality.
Finally, if you don’t like it, don’t comment. There’s an old saying, if you don’t have anything positive to say, don’t say anything at all.
Sorry Mum.
You must live a very boring life that you would kill yourself over a simple movie that brings other people pleasure but not you. Just hope you are being sarcastic as someone commented similiar to this and they were being sarcastic but thought people knew that.
Just some wild hyperbole. It’s quite fun 😛
Right on.
