From The Tips Box: Facebook Notifications, Gmail Contacts, LEGO Key Holders

Readers offer their best tips for getting a page’s Facebook notifications through RSS, removing unwanted Gmail contacts, and building DIY key holders with LEGO.

Every day we receive stacks of great reader tips. From the Tips Box is where we round up some of our favourites. Got a tip of your own to share? Add it in the comments or send it using our [contact text=”contact form”].

Subscribe to a Facebook Page’s Notifications with RSS

Our own Whitson Gordon shares this tip for subscribing to notifications from a particular Facebook page:

If you want to use RSS to subscribe to notifications for a particular person or company on Facebook, it’s not too difficult. The trick is using the right URL format:

http://www.facebook.com/feeds/page.php?format=atom10&id=PASTE_ID_HERE

and then finding the ID number for the page. If they’re using a vanity URL, you may need to use a service like findmyfacebookid.com to translate to a numeric ID. Check out the full instructions in this Blogs and PR article.

Remove Automatically Added Contacts in Gmail

Today, one of our readers wondered if there was an easy way to remove all the contacts that Gmail automatically adds just because you’ve exchanged emails. Spcagigas was kind enough to share a tip for doing just that:

Go to the Other Contacts category in Google Contacts. That’s where all the contacts you haven’t expressly added to My Contacts are listed. You can select all of them and then pick Delete from the More… menu.

Build a DIY LEGO Key Holder

David shares a fun tip for making a LEGO key holder:

Tired of losing your keys? Make this simple Lego key holder out of old Lego blocks. It’s fun, colourful, and may just take you back to those childhood of dreaming and building!
