Win $10,000 In The Bring Your Own Code Hackathon!

We’re pleased to announce that Gizmodo Australia and Lifehacker Australia have teamed-up with the good folk over at MNET to launch the Bring Your Own Code hackathon, which will give you the opportunity to score $10,000 in prize money for your creations! Here’s how you can get involved.

The theme is top-secret but will be broad and open to interpretations for teams to explore their visions, and will be announced at the event to ensure nobody has an unfair advantage. Each team will be given the theme and allowed to develop one app on any mobile platform — be it iOS, Android or Windows Phone 8 — of their choice.

The hackathon will take place in Sydney, at a secret location, over three days.

Teams will break at midnight every night and reconvene in the morning, to ensure everyone is at their sharpest. The organisers of Bring Your Own Code decided that a 24-hour event wouldn’t let everyone operate at their creative coding peak.

Giz Editor Luke Hopewell will form part of the three-pronged judging panel, and joining him will be Matthew Flatman,
Creative Manager and Developer with DG MediaMind and Lee Parker, Director of Content at Mnet Mobile.

First, second and third place prizes will be awarded, with teams winning $10,000, $2500 and $1000 respectively to develop and commercialise their projects.

The BYOC hackathon will only be open to 20 teams (!!!) and entries are open now over at the website.

We hope to see you there!
