This DIY Dog Doorbell Lets Your Pet Tell You When It’s Time To Go Out

If your dog doesn’t do a great job of letting you know when he or she needs to go for a walk, or you live somewhere you may not hear or see your dog pacing at the door wanting to go outside, this DIY doggie doorbell is a weekend project both you and your pet will appreciate.

Redditor turing5000 posted this tip to /r/DIY, noting that his dog is the silent type and not terribly vocal, so giving him the option to press a button to signal that he wants to go outside worked well. He used an old wireless doorbell unit that he repurposed with the button next to the door and the speaker in a central point in the house where he could hear.

It works like a charm, and he reported that it didn’t take long for the dog to learn that if he wants to go out, pressing the button was the fastest way to get there. Hit the link below to see the how-to and gallery.
