Celebrating holidays a few days before or after the actual date can get you cheaper flights and avoid crowds, suggests The Simple Dollar.

In fact, the suggestion is to check for the cheapest dates to and from a destination so that everyone in your family can be there without facing a cash crunch:

The best thing to do is to fire up a travel website and try lots of alternative dates for your flight. Is it cheaper to fly on the Thursday before the holiday and fly back on the following Sunday? Look at different scenarios, particularly if you’re travelling as a family and particularly if you have lots of people flying for holiday events.
