Hack A Kitchen Cart Into A Rolling Herb Garden

Outdoor herb gardens are a great way to add fresh flavour to your cooking — but they’re also easily destroyed by extreme weather and hungry critters. Meanwhile, indoor herbs often require more sunlight than a house permits and watering them can be fiddly. Here’s a simple solution that will allow green thumbs to move their herbs about with ease.

To make the Rolling Herb Garden you’ll need a RÅSKOG kitchen cart from IKEA, your favourite potted herbs and some contact paper/washi tape (if you’re the decorate type.)

“A few weeks back I saw this mint kitchen cart in IKEA, and just had to have it even though I had no clue what I’d do with it,” explained IKEA Hackers reader Audrey.

“Last week a couple of my herb pots landed on it and I figured, wouldn’t it be fun to make this cart a little rolling garden? It’s probably the easiest hack you’ll ever do. All it involves is a bit of gold contact paper and some washi tape to decorate – and you loads the cart with your favorite cooking and herb plants.

“I included a bunch of cooking herbs and plants (sage, basil, rosemary, thyme, parsley, cilantro, etc), as well as a few flowers that you can cook with (lavender, violets).

“The best thing about a having a garden on wheels is that I can put it outside when the weather is nice, bring it home if it’s too cold and even put it in different rooms in the house depending on when the sun falls over the seasons.”

Audrey also fashioned some cute plant markers out of chalkboard contact paper and washi tape. You can get the directions over at her blog.
