According to Dr Irwin Smigel, president of the American Society for Dental Aesthetics, the fruit's malic acid is a natural astringent that removes surface tooth discolouration. For a stronger whitening solution, you can also combine a strawberry with baking soda for a natural tooth whitener, but you shouldn't do this more than once a week because of the risk of enamel damage.
Either way, strawberries may be a delicious, less expensive alternative to commercial teeth-whitening products.
