There’s A 50%+ Chance Your Workplace Internet Comes From Telstra

Telstra dominates when it comes to broadband for individual users, but does it have the same degree of dominance for workplace connections? The answer, according to Roy Morgan Research, is “yes”, but by a smaller margin that varies depending on industry.

According to Morgan’s Business Telecommunications Survey of 8994 businesses, as of 2013 Telstra account for 55 per cent of Australian business fixed internet connections. Optus comes in a distant second with 12 per cent.

Those figures are lower than for consumers, where Morgan calculates the numbers as 70.9 per cent for ADSL and 63 per cent for mobile.

As the chart below shows, Telstra’s dominance is less pronounced in professional services, but even higher in construction and retail.
