No Midnight Openings For Aussie Apple Stores Selling The iPhone 5s And 5c

Want a new iPhone 5s or 5c at the first possible opportunity? Apple will open up orders for the new devices at 0201 in the morning on Friday 20 September, and will begin selling them in its retail stores from 0800 that morning. As with other recent Apple releases, there’s no midnight opening on offering.

Apple confirmed the release timings in a press announcement last night:

Apple today announced that iPhone 5s, the most forward-thinking smartphone in the world and iPhone 5c, the most colourful iPhone yet, will be available to customers on Friday, 20 September at 8:00 a.m. local time at Apple retail stores and at 2:01 a.m. AEST at the Apple Online Store

Carriers are currently taking pre-orders for the 5c, but no-one has been permitted to sell the 5s ahead of 20 September. Those timings make it very unlikely that we’ll see any other provider selling the phone prior to 0800. As usual, there’s likely to be less of a queue if you do head to a Telstra, Optus or Vodafone store, or a third-party provider such as JB Hi-Fi. Ordering online is less hassle, but won’t get you a phone on launch day (and may involve a delay of a fortnight or more if you’re not very quick.)
