Pasta is a great, quick dish that’s not hard to cook correctly, but there is some logic around which type of pasta goes with what sauce. This chart shows you virtually every type of pasta, from common rotini to the more obscure battoli, organised by family.

You may not know it, but there’s more to pasta than just the shape it’s made in. The chart (you can see the whole thing below, just click to enlarge) groups each type of pasta, organised by how it’s made, it’s general type, and other types of pasta that are similar to it. Now if you ever hear a recipe call for cassuli, you’ll know it’s a type of gnocchi, and if you love rotini, you’ll probably also love fusilli and cavatappi.
