HelloLab Makes Quick Photo Edits In An iOS 7-Inspired Interface

iOS: There’s no shortage of photo editors on iOS, but HelloLab stands out with its elegant, iOS 7-ready UI and unique take on making quick edits.

Almost every photo editor out there uses sliders to apply effects and filters. Usually this is a good thing, but I sometimes find myself spending way too much time trying to move my finger a millimetre left or right to get things just so.

HelloLab trades precision for speed by rethinking the slider metaphor. The app has all the usual tools you’d expect, but it only gives you five options on each slider to choose from. For example, the temperature slider has settings that could be described as very cool, cool, neutral, warm, and very warm. You get a little less control over the output, but you should be able to make your edit a little faster. I wouldn’t use this for a photo I was going to frame, but it’s awesome for quick touchups before sending a photo in an email.

Aside from the functionality, HelloLab is one of the first apps on the App Store to fully embrace the iOS 7 design aesthetic. There will certainly be more to follow, but for now, this is a great taste of what’s around the corner from Apple. The app is free, but offers extra filters for $0.99 each.
