It’s an age-old tradition: you’re getting ready to move, so you call up your friends to ask for help, promise them some beer and pizza, and then get to work. Usually it all works out well, but if you want to make things move a little smoother, Apartment Therapy recommends you come up with a task list to give out specific instructions.

The idea here is that most friends, no matter how well you know each other, aren’t going to just sort through all your stuff and haul it out to a truck. To keep things moving forward, give them specific instructions about what you want them to do, and when:

No one wants to rifle through your things or assume which pieces go where. Help your friends know how to help you by giving them specific tasks to keep them busy and the move, well, moving!

It might sound a little weird to do this with friends, but it really does make everyone’s lives easier.
