Android's Gallery app is a mess. It indexes every folder on your phone and on your account. Get rid of the cloud albums by disabling Google Photos sync.
If you want to remove all the cloud-based albums from your phone, head into Settings. Depending on what skin your device has, the various boxes may be in a different place, but the gist is the same:
- Find your Google account sync settings.
- Disable "Google Photos" and "Picasa Web Albums" if present.
- Find "Gallery" in your app manager.
- Tap "Clear Data".
- Relaunch the Gallery.
Unfortunately, this won't solve the problem of the Gallery indexing every file on your phone. As our own Whitson points out, it will still create a separate album for every freaking piece of album art. However, if you don't have a lot of local photos, this should clear up your Gallery app plenty. If you're still not satisfied, you can always download an alternative from our Android App Directory.
