Umano Employs Human Narrators To Read News Articles To You

iOS/Android: Keeping up with the news on your commute doesn’t require fiddling with the radio; Umano reads your favourite articles to you with professional narrators and custom playlists.

At first blush, Umano looks like any other news aggregation app. The home screen is just a list of articles tailored to your interests. But when you tap one of those articles, a professional narrator will start reading the full text of the article to you. The playback screen allows you to speed up the narration, read the article text, and even includes a car mode with huge, easy to tap buttons.

If you’re planning a long drive, you can stockpile articles in a playlist to listen to them one after the other; basically a custom podcast focusing on the exact topics you’re interested in. The app will even download the audio to your device so you can listen on the subway.

The downside here is that since Umano relies on actual human narrators, you can’t just add any article you see online; you’ll need to search within the app and hope they have what you’re looking for. The selection seems fairly broad though, so it’s certainly worth checking out before your next road trip.
