   Your data being able to fit within an Excel file may be a sign that you are not dealing with big data.

      Maybe five years ago. Worksheet size these days is 1,048,576 rows by 16,384 columns.

   Everyone (including myself until my most recent job) are very hard on Excel – but it truly has been refined quite well when you know all the shortcuts.

   Not EVERY analysis is something you will run time and time again, worth spending the time scripting.

   this looks like it would be extremely useful for 2 reasons:
   1. organisations already taking advantage of big data – excel has always been good in these organisations as a sort of staging post. My single favorite thing about excel is it ability to collect, strip and format data from so many different sources, including manual (which unfortunately for me is quite often the format i am forced to work in) and very quickly consolidate it all into a useful format that can be transferred elsewhere for further analysis
   2. organisations not using big data – this eliminates a large amount of the fear surrounding big data. even the most technophobic of managers has at least somewhat of a trust of excel (their logic here is obviously flawed, but nothing we can do about that) so presenting a simplified excel version of these sorts of applications will go a long way to convincing them of the usefullness of big data. Plus the cost must be significantly smaller than a full scale implementation
