Chrome/Firefox/Safari: Whatever YouTube’s virtues, it’s easy to watch one video via a link and then spend the next hour watching related videos and generally wasting time. Cleanr is a browser extension that focuses on the video, and strips out the ads, sidebars, comments, buttons and other distractions.
The add-on is a quick install, and once it’s active, every YouTube video will look more or less like the screenshot above. The video is in the centre, nice and large, with the title right over it. Everything else about YouTube is gone, so you can watch the video and go back to what you were doing.
The only things left on the page are the video, the search bar, and your account button. Even the YouTube homepage gets a cleanup. At first, only the search bar is visible. Click “Show More” to see a nice, orderly grid of featured videos.
If you’re a fan of apps that help you focus, Cleanr is a great way to get your YouTube fix without getting sucked into a black hole of similar videos and channel subscriptions, but it’s not the kind of tool you’ll probably have running all the time. It doesn’t make YouTube’s default experience better, it just makes it easier to get in and out. If you have issues with YouTube’s overall look and feel, we have some tips to help you fix those annoyances too. Hit the link below to grab Cleanr for your browser of choice.
