The Dryer Messenger Sends You An SMS When Your Clothes Are Dry

If your dryer is tucked away in a corner of your house that makes it impossible for you to hear when it's finished a load, it's easy to forget that you have clothes in there. DIY enthusiast Thomas Taylor was bothered enough by this that he created a system that alerts him via text message when the dryer is done.

The basic idea here is to create a system that alerts you by text message when the dryer is finished drying, without voiding the dryer's warranty. To accomplish this, Thomas used all sort of tools, including an Arduino, a Wi-Fi module, XBee sockets and plenty more.

It's by no means an easy task, but the end result is a dryer that texts you when it's finished drying. That means no more excuses for forgetting about the laundry. Head over to Make for the full guide to make this for yourself.

The Dryer Messenger [Make]

Seriously, how can anyone forget they've got clothes in the dryer?

Wouldn't it have been easier to just set a timer on your phone?

      +1 for common sense

I can appreciate this and have been thinking of a way to essentially do the same thing. I am a stay at home dad and on washing days I usually have 2 or 3 loads and am surprised at how often I forget that I have a load on and to change it. Distractions like work and kids come up all the time (not to mention a memory like a sieve).

Why not just use a twine sensor? Far easier to setup and this is an example of the thing it was built to do!

... Who has a house so both large and soundproof they cannot hear a dryer? :|

"Yes i'm a posh young billionaire just wanting to buy your product so I can know when the dryer in my 14th laundry has completed".. said nobody ever.
