The Earthy Desktop

It’s been a while since we saw a good-looking Linux desktop. Reader Dobbie03’s system combines a great wallpaper and some simple Conky configs to create an elegant and efficient desktop.

Want your desktop to look this nice? The first thing you’ll need to do is install Linux Mint, specifically the version running the Cinnamon desktop. From there, here’s what you’ll need:

  • The Anno desktop from DeviantArt
  • Conky, a lightweight system monitor for Linux systems
  • Dobbie03’s custom Conky configs for the time/date display at the top centre of the screen, and the “Now Playing” display at the bottom left.

That’s seriously all there is to it this time. You don’t have to be running Linux Mint to get a similar look on your system, since the Conky configs can used on any Linux machine, but we definitely like the look of Cinnamon.
