Amazon Enhances Tagging For Cloud Chargeback


Finance departments like costs assigned to departments; that can often be fiddly for IT. Amazon has expanded the ‘tagging’ feature for its AWS cloud offering, making it possible to track costs associated with S3 storage buckets and RDS database instances.

The CloudFormation tagging automatically tracks some usage patterns, and also lets you add custom tags to track particular projects — useful if you want to charge those directly to the originating department. Hit the AWS blog post for details on how the service works.
