Make Your Own Pepper Blends For More Flavourful Food

If you want to really spice up your food, a good pepper blend will serve you well in just about any dish. You can buy pepper blends at the supermarket, but they often contain fillers designed to look pretty but not necessarily taste good. CHOW has a solution that involves making your own blend.

The blend described in the video above requires three tablespoons of black peppercorns, two tablespoons of white peppercorns and one tablespoon of allspice berries. Mix them by hand until they are even, then load them into your pepper mill or grinder.

You’re not going to replace black pepper entirely with this blend. A pepper blend is best used when seasoning dishes or adding flavour, and shouldn’t be used as a replacement in recipes that specifically call for black pepper.
