Top Google Searches For 2012 Show We’re Looking For Love, Lotto Numbers And Psy

Am I allowed to scream in rage that “Gagnam Style” was the top Australian Google trending search term for 2012?

Google’s released its annual list of top Australian searches for 2012, and it makes for interesting, if intermittently amusing and/or infuriating reading.

In terms of trending searches, it’s all about (sigh) Gagnam Style:

  1. Gangnam Style
  2.
The Voice
  3.
One Direction

  4. Whitney Houston

Olympics
  6.
Oz Lotto
  7.

  8.

  10.
10. Morgan Freeman

Trending searches are those that have the largest traffic spikes over a 12 month period, which means (if I’m lucky) that Gagnam Style might burn out next year. Whereas in terms of global trending celebrities, it’s a Bee Gees world, apparently

  5. Delta Goodrem
  6. Emilie De Ravin
  7. Keith Urban

Google’s also used rather extensively for education, and it appears that when Aussies search for methodology, love is what we’re really after. Also, tight buttocks.

Sports are a clear Aussie passion, and it appears we want to know more (or perhaps we know less, and need to find out) more about AFL teams than any other code
