AWS Marketplace Adds Windows Server Apps

Amazon has added the ability to run Windows applications from its Amazon Web Services Marketplace, meaning you can deploy virtual Windows instances and then execute commercial applications on top of them. Four apps are included in the intial rollout: Parallels Plesk, Quest Toad, MicroStrategy and SAP Afaria.

Last month, Amazon added the ability to deploy Windows Server 2012 instances as part of AWS, so this seems a logical next step.

The first version of the AWS Marketplace only supported Linux apps. The addition of support for apps running on Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2008 (including 2008 R2) expands that flexibility, though Amazon will want additional software vendors to sign up to make the approach more appealing. Which apps would you like to see available for deployment on a virtualised cloud instance? Tell us in the comments.
