Keep Your Kitchen Free Of Cross-Contamination

Many of us will be faced with the task of preparing meals for friends and family in small kitchens these Christmas holidays. The folks at America’s Test Kitchen have some tips to help keep that food safe and your kitchen clean in the process.

The video above has a number of tips in it, but one that stood out to me specifically was the one about adding your seasonings to a small bowl together before seasoning the meat. That way you can reach into the bowl and season freely without worrying about washing your hands every time you touch the meat.

The other tips include covering cutting boards and work spaces with plastic wrap, which can be tossed away leaving a clean surface beneath (although it definitely creates more waste), and cleaning your sponge in boiling water.
