Flickr user Jonathan Quintana loves to customise desktops, and this Ubuntu setup is his first attempt on Linux. It looks sharp, offers useful information and still has plenty of room to work and get things done.
If you want the same look for your Linux desktop, here’s what you’ll need to make it happen:
- The wallpaper from Wallbase
- The Slave GNOME Shell extension for a quick app launcher and search bar, quick access to system settings, and an overhauled visual UI
- The Ring Sensors Screenlet for system status monitoring, WLAN signal strength, and quick search in the centre of the screen
You’ll need a Linux system, but other than that it doesn’t take much to make this work. If you have questions about how Jonathan managed to make this all work, head over to his Flickr page to ask away.
If you’re running WIndows, you can get the same effects on your desktop with Rainmeter and our guide to setting it up. Mac users can get their GeekTool on and consult our guide for tips.
