Retro Floppy Drive As HDD Enclosure


Still harbouring an old external floppy drive from a beloved old eight-bit machine? Rather than just wasting space, with a little work you can swap out the internals from a vintage drive to produce modern storage with a retro look.

Instructables user johnmueller cracked open his vintage Apple floppy drive, removed the internal drive components, opened his external hard drive disk and removed the drive and the interior chassis, and installed the interior chassis, HDD, and cables in the floppy drive. He had to cut a few holes in the back of the floppy drive to accomplish this and he also added a HDD activity LED light, but all in all this is a pretty straightforward mod.
