NoSleep Prevents Your MacBook From Sleeping When You Close The Lid

Mac: When you close the lid to your MacBook, your computer automatically goes to sleep. This means you can't continue downloads or perform updates of any kind without leaving your laptop sitting open. NoSleep is a small utility that prevents your MacBook from sleeping when you close the lid.

NoSleep sits in you menu bar and offers a quick toggle to turn it on or off. With NoSleep on, when you close your MacBook, you computer won't fall asleep immediately. You can also set it to never sleep with an AC adaptor connected, or when it's just running off the battery. It's obviously not a setting you need to have on all the time, but it should come in handy for those moments when you don't want to lose your internet connection just because you closed the lid of your MacBook. NoSleep is a free download.

You need a third party utility to do this on Mac? On Windows it's built right into the battery settings with profiles.

Yeah, its not an option because the screen needs to be open to allow cooling.
Running a mac laptop with the screen closed will overheat it and cause damage.
This "utility" will absolutely void your warranty.

There's an app for almost anything. :P

Isn't this actually really dangerous for the laptop? Most Mac laptops use the keyboard as their cooling outlet, so I can imagine your laptop overheating really quickly (or your screen getting burnt from the heat).

Old Mac laptops used to have a 'clamshell' mode, where you could continue to use the laptop when the lid was closed, but that was when the outlets used to be on the outside.

sleepless does this and more. you have more options such as allowing screen to sleep but not system, or keeping both on, including specific scenarios for when lid is closed.

when i use my laptop for dj sets i set it so no screen or system sleep occurs when lid is closed - not keen on having 1000 people stop and start staring at me because some idiot pushed my screen closed.
