Turn A Newspaper Holder Into A Message Centre

Keeping a bit of corkboard on the wall in the kitchen is a great way to exchange messages with family members, post important reminders or store coupons. But if you don’t want to devote an entire section of wall to just a message board, this IKEA hack will let you turn the front of a newspaper holder into space for notes and messages.

Here are the parts you’ll need to make this work:

  • The Ikea SPONTAN newspaper holder ($19.99)
  • Three Ikea NYTTJA picture frames ($2.99 each)
  • Corkboard for the frames

Once you have all of the components, hang the newspaper holder on the wall where you want it. Instead of putting photos in the frames, cut the cork board to fit, and then slide it into place with the protective plastic removed. Then just mount each frame to the front of the SPONTAN’s three holders with some strong glue or Velcro. The end result is a multi-purpose, affordable message centre that can hold your mail and your shopping list.
