Windows Azure Sydney Meetup Wrapped Up

Our fortnight of meetups thanks to Windows Azure continues, and last night was Sydney’s turn. We’ve got winners, we’ve got ludicrous captions.

Customer presenting duties were ably handled by Douw Loots from BETER, who spoke on how Azure helped in building an effective nationwide logistics solutions. Our winner of the individual challenge round — who scored a prize of Microsoft Visual Studio Professional with MSDN Essentials valued at $810 — was Jim Wild. Congratulations Jim!

Once again, our vicious trivia questions challenged reader brains. There was a tie for first place, and it was only after a nail-biting tie breaker questions that Command.com emerged victorious. No wonder we all had to hang around the pub until it closed afterwards.

Our caption picture in Sydney featured Microsoft founder Bill Gates meeting Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. Some of the suggested captions frankly aren’t suitable for public consumption, but we ultimately gave the prize to this suggestion from Bevon:

I revolutionised personal computing: what have you done?

Other close-run contenders included “I said bring me Android royalties, not Android royalty”, “No Charles, I am your father”, “Bill: Should I stand at attention? Charles: No, Az u re.”, “It looks like you’re filing for divorce — would you like some help with that?” and “A blue screen would be more interesting.”

Thanks once again to everyone who came along (and to Microsoft for making it possible). Next week has Melbourne and Perth events — if you haven’t already signed up, get in now!
