It’s Not What You Read, It’s What You Ignore

Feeling overwhelmed by your inbox, your to-dos, your errands, your to-reads and all the rest? Of course you are. We all are. Microsoft-ian and speaker Scott Hanselman delivers a practical and inspiring talk on digging yourself out of the guilt-ridden cycles of distraction and interruption, and it’s full of productivity gems.

Hanselman’s basic premise: Productivity isn’t about doing everything, it’s about doing the right things and ignoring the rest. While that sounds like self-evident advice, an honest evaluation of your workflow (something Hanselman offers guidance for in his talk) will likely reveal that it’s a truth you’re not respecting. The talk is about 40 minutes, but it’s worth a listen. If you don’t have time to watch the whole video, consider converting it to an MP3 you can listen to on your commute.
