Interact With Your Friends’ Google+ Status Updates from Inside Gmail

Google has been slowly rolling out new features and closer integration between all of its products and Google+, and yesterday it was Gmail’s turn to get a few updates. Now, when you get G+ notifications in your Gmail inbox, you’ll be able to view, comment and +1 those posts without leaving your inbox, and if you’re viewing a notification post and someone else comments on the post, you’ll see that reply in the message, in real time.

The fact that Google is going around to all of its products and finding new ways to hook them into Google+ is a boon for people who use it, but it hasn’t gone without its fair share of scrutiny. In this case however, the only people impacted are people who actively use Google+ and have email notifications turned on. If you’re reading a notification email on a mobile device, you can just reply to the message to post a comment directly to a friend’s G+ status update.

Google already allows you to add people you exchange email with directly to your circles from within Gmail and view their Google+ profile by hovering over their profile icon in your mailbox, but these new features should be welcome additions to G+ users. Google says it is rolling out the option over the next few weeks, and whether you want in or out, you can always update your Google+ notifications settings here.
